695 black and white and color photographic prints and color slides.

The collection consists of photographic prints and slides documenting the conservation of four bas-relief murals located on the Fair Park Centennial building, created by artist Pierre Bourdelle for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition.

Fair Park, the site of the State Fair of Texas, is located in East Dallas near the downtown business district.  It is owned by the City of Dallas and managed by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department.  The 277-acre site is home to the annual State Fair of Texas, the Cotton Bowl stadium, and several museums.  Fair Park houses one of the greatest concentrations of early twentieth-century Art Deco exposition buildings in the United States.

Pierre Bourdelle (1903-1966) was born in Paris, France, and was the son of French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929). Bourdelle studied under Auguste Rodin and graduated from the Sorbonne in 1921.  In 1929, Bourdelle moved to the United States and took up residence in New York City where he pursued corporate-sponsored art contracts.  In 1936, Bourdelle accepted a contract with the Texas Centennial Commission to create public art projects for the upcoming Texas Centennial Exposition.  Bourdelle created six murals for the Automobile building that were lost to a fire in 1942, six murals depicting animal heads for the Sheep and Goat buildings in the Pan American Complex, as well as four bas-reliefs for the Centennial building; Cougar and Bison, Man and Angel, Man and Eagle, and Man Taming Wild Horse.

The conservation work was performed by the Laboratory for Conservation of Fine Arts located in Englewood, New Jersey, as well as the Conservation of Sculpture and Objects Studio of Chicago, Illinois.  Funding was provided by the City of Dallas as well as the Friends of Fair Park.  Restoration of the art work was completed in 2000.
