Collection consists of videotape of a sampling of Dallas City Council meetings between 1989 to 1999; a Dallas City Council inauguration event held June 2, 1997; and an Oak Cliff "town hall" format meeting held October 11, 1997. The videocassettes are in the 3/4" U-matic format, which were used for re-broadcast of Dallas City Council meetings by local cable on a city-designated cable access channel. Because the tapes were recycled weekly, these are the only tapes of entire meetings from that time period.
The June 2, 1997 Dallas City Council inauguration occurred during the first term of Mayor Ron Kirk at Fair Park Music Hall. The inauguration was notable for installing seven women, the largest number to sit on the 15-member body at one time.
